Organic Saskatoon Berry
It’s not a blueberry and doesn’t taste like one either. The Saskatoon Berry shrub is a member of the apple family and native to the Canadian Prairies. An indigenous shrub, it has been consumed for hundreds of years by Aboriginals. Because of its rusticity it can withstand Québec winters and therefore be cultivated here quite well. It’s fruit, which grows in clusters is purple through and through which makes it the most antioxidant of all berries (452mg/100g). Eaten fresh it’s taste is mild sweet with a hint of nuttiness, it’s flesh tender but dry. When Saskatoon’s are heated for cooking, their aroma is divine and the complexity of it’s flavours really stands out. We offer Saskatoons in preserves which is the way they deserve to be discovered.
